That’s us! We hold power in this world and we have choices about how we use it. Many of us have choices about what kinds of systems we create and what sorts of behaviors we endorse. These choices have major consequences for each other, non-human animals, and our planet. Why not use our power to transform the world? We can begin a journey towards a peaceful and healthy world for all.
What’s one of the worst things you can do to a person? Dehumanize that person. That is because, in our world, non-human animals are thought to be non-conscious,
worthless beings. Wrong. All animals think, feel, and desire to live. Moreover, the very standards for behavior that support the abuse and exploitation of animals provide a scaffold for the abuse and exploitation of humans. We must include non-human animals in our circle of concern if we truly want to create a peaceful and just world.
The physical environment supports and sustains life. How we treat the environment determines the quality of lives of all lives on the planet. When we abuse and exploit it, we undermine our efforts to create healthy communities. We also sanction the use of power for human greed. When we nurture and support it, we create a world that works for all. We send a message that power is to be used for good.
